The Opportunity

What you'll do

- Take a genuine interest in understanding clients' businesses and goals

- Manage junior members of staff, including allocating and reviewing their work

- Prepare complex accounts and assist with adhoc work as needed

- Manage client portfolios and relationships

- Assist the director and practice manager with enquiries

- Work with cloud accounting software (particularly Xero)

- Integrate modern tech solutions with traditional accounting practices

- Handle personal tax, business tax, and VAT matters

- Break down complex accounting concepts into clear, simple language

- Contribute ideas and help shape our innovative approach to accounting

What does that really look like?

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the practice, who will deputise for the director.   The practice has grown significantly over the last 12 months and as we continue to grow the opportunities for your own development will also increase.

The relationships we have with our clients is important and you will be encouraged to build your own relationship with them including understanding their business and how we can support them.  That might be in anything from leading the meeting discussing their accounts, talking about their software set up and how they can improve their use of it or just catching up with them on what is going on in their business.

Our approach is to help clients build knowledge and understanding as much as possible, so we prepare accounts making adjustments as the client would if they were doing their own bookkeeping, using features like find and recode or find and fix rather than journals wherever possible.  Limited company clients are offered pre year end planning meetings and all clients are encouraged to contact us whenever they have questions.

You will get the opportunity to attend industry events, like Accountex and the Digital Accountancy Show.  Your input into software and technology options will be expected – keeping up to date in what software options are available and how they can be used to support our client base, testing out software and evaluating it for use in the practice.  Some of the new technology we have tested and implemented over the last couple of years includes Mimo and Apron.  Currently we are part of a trial for Xero Workpapers.

All our team have individual working patterns.  Examples of some we have currently or for past employees

-   Annualised hours, working a higher number of hours during term time and reduced hours over school holidays protected by contract.

-   Compressed working week

-   Completely flexible schedule allowing hours to be completed throughout the day and week to suit family and other commitments and the schedule to change week to week as other commitments do.

- Interest in providing tailored advice based on both technical knowledge and client understanding
